Historical Events

    1994:

    Apr, 1995:

    • During the ECTS Spring computer expo first contacts with European game producers were established, and Interplay and Blue Byte games were added to the list of products distributed in Poland.

    Oct, 1995:

    • A contract was signed with Blizzard Entertainment, thanks to which CD Projekt became an exclusive distributor of Warcraft II and any Blizzard's future products; Warcraft II hit the stores in December and became the first game in the company's history to sell more than 2000 copies in the premiere edition alone.

    1996:

    • After a contract was signed with Psygnosis, CD Projekt begins to translate not only game manuals into Polish but packaging as well which leads to all products being sold in Polish-language packaging.

    Jan, 1996:

    • During the Komputer Expo event a new PC game was presented - Nowy Teenagent, the first Polish CD-ROM game developed by CD Projekt.

    Dec, 1996:

    • Published Polish computer game Lew Leon developed by the Polish company Leryx which broke all previous sales records.

    1997:

    • Published Diablo in Poland and sets new sales records, and another CD Projekt-published game, Katharsis, won the accolade for the best Polish game at the spring edition of Gambleriada computer expo.

      CD Projekt starts to publish fully localized games with professional Polish-language translations of such games as MDK, Ace Ventura and Ecstatica 2.

    1998:

    • Started to continually lower its premiere products' prices, which led to the signing of a contract with Infogrames; the first result of this contract was the publishing of the Polish-language version of Anno 1602.. Additionally, a CD Projekt contracted another publisher, Cryo.

    1999:

    • A new and groundbreaking sales record was set, when Baldur's Gate (published in Poland by CD Projekt) sold more than 18 thousand copies in just a couple of months. For this incredible (considering the market situation in 1999) feat, CD Projekt was awarded with, amongst other accolades, an 'As EMPIKu' for the publishing of the biggest best-seller in the entertainment multimedia business.

    2000:

    2001:

    • Children's division created with the intention of publishing quality games without violence and some educational value.

    Feb, 2002:

    • The company's Red Studio was opened - a division of their company dedicated to creating PC games. Currently, Red Studio is working on an action RPG The Witcher, based on the works of Andrzej Sapkowski.

    Mar, 2002:

    • Starts to publish games for the Playstation, Playstation 2 and Gameboy Advance consoles.

    Jul 01, 2002:

    2003:

    • Broadened their localization services and localized 30 different game versions externally for other companies.

    Feb, 2008:

    Oct 23, 2008:

    • The company launches GOG.com (Good Old Games) as a purchase-for-download portal.

    Oct 23, 2009:

    • Polish company Optimus concludes the acquisition of CDP Investment, the holding company which includes CD Projekt Sp. z o.o.
