According to their website, the Dark Unicorn in their company's name is in reference to the game Archon; one of the heaviest-hitting pieces on the Light side was the Unicorn, fast with a crippling ranged attack. While the dark side had no unicorn, it had instead the Shapechanger, who would mimic the powers of its enemy. The cunning computer AI of the game would only ever put the Shapechanger into play on a dark board square, slightly enhancing its powers, and resulting in a formidable opponent that, put into combat against the Light Unicorn, would be a smidge better than arguably the strongest character in the game.
