Sid Meier,
Brian Reynolds and

Railroad Tycoon and the
Civilization series at
Microprose Software.
The company solely focuses on
Sid Meier games, first with
Sid Meier's Gettysburg!,
Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire, and later
Sid Meier's Pirates! (a remake), and the continuation of the main Civilization series with
Sid Meier's Civilization III and
IVIn 2005, the company was acquired by
Take-Two Interactive, joining the
2K Games publishing label. In March 2006, due to cost-saving measures, fellow Take-Two development studios
PopTop Software Inc. and
Frog City Software were merged into the company.
Trivia
The company's name was inspired by an intense musical piece composed by
Jeff Briggs, President and CEO, titled… Firaxis. Firaxis is a fusion of 'fiery' and 'axis.'
Their logo features the fire wheel, which symbolizes, according to the developers,
the fiery axis of creativity from which all great game elements arise.
