GameFX Technology

Overview

GameFx was the advanced gaming technology development arm of THQ, one of the top four video and PC game publishers. GameFx pioneered THQ's research and development on cutting-edge gaming machines, especially next-generation consoles like the PlayStation2, X-Box, and GameCube.

GameFx was located in Lexington, Massachusetts, in the heart of Boston's high tech corridor, with connections to MIT, Harvard, Art centers, Berkelee School of Music, and other high tech centers.

In 1996, Noah Davis and Gary Tarolli of 3dfx had a shared vision of a 3D accelerated only game development company. From that shared vision grew GameFx as a spin-off from 3dfx Interactive. Noah, an avid gamer and technologist, foresaw the quantum leap forward computer and console games are now making, utilizing high-speed processors and dedicated 3D hardware. Gary Tarolli and Noah share seats on each others' Technology Advisory Boards.

THQ fully acquired GameFX in April 1998.
