OverviewGradiente Entertanment Ltda. was the Brazilian Nintendo's subsidiary in Brazil, from 1996 to 2003. Since 1993, Nintendo was represented in Brazil by Playtronic Industrial Ltda., a joint venture between Gradiente and Manufatura de Brinquedos Estrela, which left the business in 1996.
Gradiente Entertainment Ltda. was a division of Gradiente Eletrônica S/A, a well known electronics company in Brazil, running business since 1964. Gradiente Eletrônica S/A has released a MSX clone, the Gradiente Expert, produced from 1985 to 1990. They were also owners of Polyvox, the Brazilian Atari licensed company, having officially released the Atari 2600 in the country. They also released a NES clone (the Phantom System, which was shaped after the Atari 7800, and had controllers shaped after the Genesis/Mega Drive controllers) before signing with Nintendo.
In the beginning of 2003, they left the video games business due to the high Dollar exchange rate and high diffusion of piracy in Brazil.
