OverviewGSC Game World was a Ukrainian developer based in Kyiv. It was founded in 1995 by Sergey Grygorovych. The name "GSC" stands for its founder's initials.
Formally simply known as GSC, the company's main focus from 1995 to 1997 was the production of multimedia encyclopedias and edutainment programs, which were widely popular in Ukraine and Russia. Later they started focusing on games and became known as the creators of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.
On 9th December 2011 CEO Sergey Grygorovych announced the studio would close down. The company was working on Stalker 2 at the time.
Two different companies were formed by the former developers: Vostok Games (March 2012) and Union Studio (first revealed in June 2012).
The studio re-opened in December 2014.
