Her Interactive, Inc.

Overview

Founded in 1995, Her Interactive began its life as "Games For Her", a division of American Laser Games located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As part of American Laser, their primary function was the development of "live-action" software specifically for girls. Their first title, McKenzie & Co., was released that same year followed in 1996 by The Vampire Diaries.

In 1997, the Her Interactive division secured the much-sought-after rights to produce games starring Nancy Drew, the famous teenage detective, from copyright owner Simon & Schuster.

In an unprecedented move, Her Interactive bought out American Laser in 1999. The following year, Her Interactive sold American Laser to Digital Leisure Inc.

As quoted from the Her Interactive website:
"Her Interactive creates intelligent interactive entertainment for girls of all ages. The company designs, develops and markets award-winning interactive CD-ROM games that offer role-playing mysteries and adventures that girls and adventurous sleuths find both challenging and fun. Her Interactive's Nancy Drew series offers exciting adventure game play without violence or gender stereotypes. With years of experience developing games for girls the company will continue to identify opportunities for interactive products for girls.

Our corporate mission is to lead the industry toward a new standard of intelligent interactive entertainment for girls. By providing role-playing experiences through computer games and online media, Her Interactive's goal is to open the doors of technology to girls by making computers more appealing."
