Ignition Banbury
Overview
Ignition Banbury was an internal game development studio and part of
Ignition Entertainment located in the United Kingdom.
Originally the studio was
Awesome Developments Ltd., a company founded in approximately 1997 by programming veteran
Archer Maclean to develop computer games entertainment products for various platforms including the PC, PlayStation 2, X-Box and GameBoy Color.
The first game released by Awesome Developments was the PC version of
Jimmy White's 2: Cueball in the fall of 1998.
In June 2002, it was announced that Awesome Developments had been acquired by
Ignition Entertainment. In March 2004, the name was changed to
Awesome Studios. It became a dedicated studio inside Ignition Entertainment, moved to a new location and, by 2006, was called
Ignition Banbury.
In December 2006
Rebellion's CEO
Jason Kingsley learned that Ignition Banbury was to be closed and all employees were let go. Then in March 2007
Rebellion acquired the studio and hired the 30+ team members.
