Ikegami Tsushinki Co., Ltd.
Overview
Ikegami Tsushinki Co., Ltd. is a leading manufacturer of video cameras and broadcasting equipment. They were involved with development of arcade game software and hardware in the late '70s and early '80s, producing a number of titles for Sega and Nintendo before leaving the industry. Most notably, the company was responsible for programming Nintendo's breakout hit
Donkey Kong, as well as most other Nintendo arcade games produced up to that point. For Sega, they produced
Zaxxon and
Congo Bongo.
After the production of
Donkey Kong, a drawn-out legal battle between Ikegami and Nintendo ensued over the copyright status of the game's source code; both companies claimed to own the code, and Ikegami accused Nintendo of illegally copying
Donkey Kong game boards as well as reverse-engineering the game software during the production of
Donkey Kong Jr. The matter was eventually settled out of court in 1990.
