People Can Fly
Overview
People Can Fly is a development studio founded in February 2002 and located in Warsaw, Poland. The company is known for the
Painkiller franchise but also collaborated with
Epic Games, Inc. on the PC version of
Gears of War. On 20th August 2007 Epic announced to have obtained a majority interest in the company, thus acquiring it. The two studios are now working together on new IP and People Can Fly also contributed to the design of the multiplayer maps of
Gears of War 2.

Ever wondered how they came up with the name for the company?
We were trying hard to come up with something good for a couple of days, and even though some proposals sounded catchy, nothing really clicked. Then we came up with this strange idea of checking the names of various ambient/techno/house albums and songs. We figured these people, with the help of more or less legal substances, may have already come up with something good. After a couple of hours, boom, a song called "People Can Fly". Even though we continued our little research, that phrase didn't want to let go and we realized we have a winner. Only later we have found this quote from X-Files' Fox Mulder: "When you dream there are no rules, people can fly, anything can happen". Couldn't have said it better ourselves!
