Red Storm Entertainment, Inc.

Overview

From Redstorm's web site: "Red Storm Entertainment's objective is to become the market leader in the publishing and production of entertainment products in multiple forms - interactive computer and console games, board games and other related merchandise. With games like Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, the fast-growing company is quickly becoming recognized as an innovative creator of titles that provide a totally immersive gaming experience. Many of Red Storm Entertainment's games combine full 3-D graphics, seamless action and strategic gameplay, as well as enhanced multi-player capabilities. These games aim to satisfy "hard-core" gamer appetites while appealing to a new, broader game player community - the "casual" game fan attracted to realistic and intelligent games.

The History The story of Red Storm Entertainment goes back to 1985, when a writer named Tom Clancy met a British Royal Navy captain named Doug Littlejohns. Fresh off the success of his last book, The Hunt for Red October, Clancy asked Littlejohns for technical advice on his next novel. That novel eventually became Red Storm Rising.

Twelve years later, Clancy began looking to try his hand at an interesting new creative endeavor - the formation of a multimedia entertainment company. Once again, he looked to Littlejohns for advice…this time as president and CEO.

With the backing and co-ownership of Virtus Corporation, the leader in 3-D multimedia authoring tools, and after partnering with Pearson plc, one of the world's largest and most respected media groups, Clancy's and Littlejohns' new company released its first title, Tom Clancy's Politika, in November, 1997. Packed with a new Clancy paperback novel and a separately sold board game, it started a new era in the careers of Clancy and Littlejohns, and put Red Storm Entertainment on the interactive map.

Today Red Storm Entertainment is quickly becoming the leader in content development for multiple-media. In 1998, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six was only the second title to be released by the company, timed to hit the marketplace within weeks of Clancy's book by the same name. The game was an instant success, delighting gamers with its emphasis on hostage rescue that was unheard of in the action genre. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six set the stage for a new genre of "squad-based shooters" that focus on teamwork and cooperation.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear is the sequel to the hit game and was released in September of 1999, surpassing the success of the award winning original game. Versions of the original were released in November 1999 for the PlayStation and Nintendo 64 platforms, bringing the same heart-pounding experience to console gamers around the world.
