Tale of Tales BVBA
Overview
Tale of Tales is a game development company founded by
Auriea Harvey and
Michaƫl Samyn in Belgium in December 2003. It makes interactive projects that often take place in virtual spaces, with an artistic motivation. The first game,
8 was never completed due to a lack of funds. The second game,
The Endless Forest - a curious 3D multiplayer deer simulation game, was launched in December 2005 and is still being updated with new content.
The team also made a game for the music album
Min of meer by Eva De Roovere &
Gerry De Mol.
In 2008 the short game
The Graveyard was unexpectedly released in March 2008. It was nominated and became a finalist for the Innovation Award at the 2009 Independent Games Festival. Before that, the short horror game
The Path was announced. Loosely based on the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood but with a much darker twist, it was released in March 2009 and it was also a visual art finalist at the 2008 Independent Games Festival.
The Path was the studio's first truly commercial game, not only self-published digitally but also available on digital platforms such as Direct2Drive and Steam, and published in retail in Poland. The studio's first title was free (
The Endless Forest) or offered a bit more content to paying players (
The Graveyard). The developers regularly write about their views and design concepts on the company site's blog and try to adhere the game design to a manifesto.
In October 2009, the studio released another shorter game, dubbed a
vignette, similar to
The Graveyard, called
Fatale. It is based on the original biblical story of Salome as well as the more modern play by
Oscar Wilde.
