Based in Universal City, California, Universal Interactive was originally a company owned by Universal Studios and was called Universal Interactive Studios for many years. The company concentrated on developing and publishing interactive entertainment for next generation game consoles, handhelds and PC platforms based on original content and Universal Studios character, movie, and television franchises. The company's owned and licensed properties included Bruce Lee, Crash Bandicoot, The Incredible Hulk, The Scorpion King, Spyro the Dragon, The Mummy and The Thing.

After a merger in December 2000, Universal Interactive became a studio of Vivendi Games and is part of the company's Vivendi Universal Games division.
