Volition, Inc.
Overview
After making
Descent II,
Parallax Software, which had offices in Champaign, IL and Ann Arbor, MI decided to split into two different companies,
Outrage Entertainment and Volition Inc. Both companies shared technologies, messageboards and even had a common online matchmaking service, called PXO (www.pxo.net)
Volition Inc. was created in November 1996. Located in Champaign, its staff is composed by the employees who worked for Parallax in the Champaign offices, lead by
Mike Kulas.
In 2000, Volition, along with it PXO service, was acquired by
THQ.
In August 2012 THQ canceled
InSane, the game Volition had been working on with movie director
Guillermo del Toro. The rights were returned to the director.
Following the closure of parent company THQ in January 2013, the studio was sold to
Koch Media.
