Wizard Video Games

Overview

Wizard Video Games was a division of Wizard Video Entertainment, a video distribution company started by movie director/producer Charles Band. Wizard was primarily responsible for distributing horror films on video until they entered the video game market in 1983 with game adaptations of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween.

Wizard's games were controversial at the time due to their violent content and subject matter. Many game retailers refused to carry their games and the ones who did often kept them behind the counter on a request-only basis. Largely because of this, their games sold relatively poorly.

The Wizard titles are very popular with collectors today, but they are very rare due to poor distribution and low sales at the time of their release. They are very hard to find complete in box.

Trivia

Wizard Video used Telesys cartridge shells and Apollo PCBs for their games.
