Biography edit · view history

Bill Williams (1960-1998) was a computer game designer and programmer. His games are known for their unusual concepts, leading to a comparison between him and the film director Stanley Kubrick. His first game was Salmon Run (1982). In 1983 he took over and completed Alley Cat for Synapse after John Harris stepped down.

In the late 1980's Williams developed games for the Amiga, the last of which was Knights of the Crystallion (1990). In the early 1990's he did some console development work for Sculptured Software in Salt Lake City, Utah. The last game he worked on was Bart's Nightmare (1993). He was reportedly disappointed with the game and called it "Bill's Nightmare".

In 1992 Williams moved to Chicago to study theology. He received his master's degree two years later. He and his wife then moved to Rockport, Texas. In 1996 he worked on an unpublished Sculptured Software game with a working title Mustache Red.

Williams was suffering from cystic fibrosis, and his condition was worsened by the polluted air of Chicago. He died in 1998 of complications of the disease. Shortly before his death he wrote a theological work entitled Naked Before God: The Return of a Broken Disciple.
