Steven Masters started in the games industry as a tester with Simis Limited between November 1998 and May 1997 where he tested five products, such as Team Apache. Later, the company became a part of Kuju Entertainment.

He moved on to become a level designer on Peacemaker: Protect, Search & Destroy, was a designer on Halcyon Sun, and Ka-52 Team Alligator, lead game designer on Fireblade, and lead multiplayer designer on Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior. He is also credited with design on Terror Strike, although he had already left the company before it was released. He was with Kuju between November 1998 and April 2005.

He then joined Ubisoft and was a game designer on Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas, Assassins Creed, with additional design on Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2. He became a lead game designer on Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction and most recently was the lead game designer on Assassins Creed 3 in Ubisoft's Montreal studio.
