Clinton Keith

Developer BIO

Over the course of 20 years, Clinton has gone from programming avionics and other software for advanced fighter jets to overseeing programming for video game titles that put one of today's hottest development studios on the map.

Before joining Sammy Studios, Clinton worked as director/lead programmer at Angel Studios, now known as Rock Star San Diego. There, he helped the company grow from 60 to 120 developers while directing the development of their biggest titles, beginning with their first driving game for PC and still the company's best-selling title, Midtown Madness. Through the creation of new engineering tools and by establishing new production processes, Clinton succeeded in leading teams with greatly improved execution rates, and ultimately helped Angel become the only studio to deliver two complete titles for PS2's launch: top-ten bestsellers Midnight Club and Smuggler's Run. Additional titles delivered by Clinton's teams at Angel include Test Drive Wide Open and hit sequels Midtown Madness 2, Midnight Club 2, and Smuggler's Run 2.

Prior to Angel, Clinton served as software engineer-undersea technology at Applied Remote Technology, where he developed embedded graphics software, laser scanners and modems for underwater vehicles. Among his most notable achievements there were development of the first 2400 baud underwater modem and the first full-color laser line scanner. Before that, Clinton was software engineer with Secret/SAR clearance at TRW Military Avionics. His work at TRW included development of communications, navigation and identification avionics software for two of Northrup/McDonnell Douglas' most advanced fighter jets, the YF-23 and YF-22. Clinton began his work in programming at General Digital Corporation, though his first experience in the field came when he wrote his first video game in high school on a DEC PDP 8.

Clinton is the founder and current chair of the San Diego chapter of the Independent Game Developers Association (IGDA). He received his BS in computer science at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT, and has taken master's program courses in digital signal processing and C++ at computer science at University of California, San Diego.
