Karl Meissner is an expert in artificial intelligence programming. Karl started his career for the first 5 years developing AI for the US government and various defense contractors.
Karl then entered the game industry in 1996. He was the AI programmer on Interstate ’76 published by Activision in 1997. He then developed much of the AI for Civilization:Call to Power which was very successful. The AI for these games are discussed at http://www.gameai.com/.
After CTP, Karl left Activision for GameFx/THQ. He contributed to a little known game called Sinistar Unleashed as programmer and several unpublished projects internal to GameFx as lead programmer.
In 2000, Karl left GameFx to become the Director of Engineering at a web startup called Sourcegate. There, he helped lead the effort to build a client-server system to deliver news, weather and stock quotes to web clients. When funding dried up, Karl started his own company, Meissner Software Development. Its homepage is http://meissner.v0.net/msd.htm.
Currently, Karl is making a development environment to optimize network performance for network routers for a Fortune 500 company.
