After finishing college, Jez began his career in QA at Bullfrog in 1998. After a year of varying responsibilities working on Populous 3 and Dungeon Keeper 2 amongst others, he moved to a design role at Bristol-based Hothouse Creations, building maps and writing scenarios for Gangsters 2. Two years later, an opportunity arose to return to EA, where he spent 4 years designing various games for the Harry Potter franchise - notably Quidditch World Cup - and other projects. After completing work on Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, Jez moved to Relentless Software as senior designer on the next title in the Buzz! franchise.
