While pursuing his BFA with honors from the Maryland Institute, College of Art, with a focus in illustration, Justin Thomas became a filmmaker, experimenting with the short film genre.

He worked for Firaxis Games off and on as an intern and contractor for 3 years before joining them full time in the fall of 2004.
