After receiving a B.A. from Beloit College and an MFA in Creative Writing from USC, Haris soon realized he had no discernible skills with which to make a living. This despite being a finalist in the American Theater Festival for his one act play, Armageddon. Advertising beckoned.
After several years writing and producing award winning radio and television commercials, Haris sold his first screenplay,
Save the Dog, Which was later produced as a Disney Sunday Night movie.
In 1989 he collaborated on
That’s My Hat, a play produced by the First Stage Theater Ensemble of Los Angeles. In 1990,
Sex, Impotence, and International Terrorism was produced by L.A.’s Renegade Theater Company and was chosen as a critic’s choice by the L.A. Weekly. It was later sold as a film script to MGM/UA.
His play,
Dada was produced in 1994 at The American Stage and performed again in 1996 at the Nebraska Rep. It was selected as one of the best new comedies of 1994 by the New Jersey Star Ledger and in 1997 opened the Streisand Festival of New Jewish Plays at the La Jolla Playhouse.
Nobody Lives Forever has been performed at The John Harmon Theater and The Player’s Club in New York City. A short film based on the play and directed by Haris is currently running on ifilm.com.
Haris has written scripts for Universal, Columbia, Twentieth Century Fox, Disney, and Paramount. His original screenplay,
A Saintly Switch was produced for ABC’s Wonderful World of Disney. It was directed by Peter Bogdanovich and tarred David Alan Grier and Viveca Fox. Haris collaborated with Teresa O’Neil on Rebound, a sitcom pilot for Paramount Pictures and CBS.
Recently, he wrote "Fraidy Cat" for Disney Feature Animation as well as the script for
Dragonshard, a PC game from Atari and Liquid Entertainment.
Call of Juarez, a game he wrote for Techland and Ubisoft was released last June. Kane's Wrath, the expansion to the best-selling Command and Conquer Tiberium Wars, is slated to be released in Spring 2008. Haris is currently writing new games for EALA, Ubisoft, and Techland
