Bert studied computer science from 1993 to 2001 in Oldenburg, Germany.
During that time he was part of the first team which developed the role playing game Gothic. The same game engines was used for the sequel Gothic2.
It all began with Ultima Underworld and two other students who tried to develop a similar game. They started with a game demo written in Turbo Pascal. Bert joined the team and they send the demo to eight companies including bluebyte, attic and greenwood. The latter two were interested and finally they joined with Greenwood to make a great roleplaying game.
After Gothic Bert decided to finish his studies. He never came back to game development but is a now a senior java developer.
