Developer Biography

Randy joined Sierra On-Line in 1994, first bringing his film and video experience and education to bear on Phantasmagoria (Blue Screen Lighting/ Camera and live-action sequence editing), followed by Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within (Director of Photography, live-action sequence editor). Randy taught himself game design while working at Sierra by studying the design documents of Jane Jensen, creator of the Gabriel Knight series. Other credits at Sierra include: Lighthouse (Sound Designer); Echoes (Assistant Designer, Narrative Writer, “Mythologist” for the alien race, Sound Designer); Cloak (Live-action movie script writer, live-action director, managed the integration of live actors into CGI sets, Sound Designer); Randy was also one of four people in the design team developing Into the Fire, a Babylon 5 space combat simulator, for which he created a non-linear, non-branching narrative system for the sim and co-wrote the live-action scripts. All three of the games he helped to design were canceled during a tumultuous time of change in Sierra’s history.

Since Babylon 5:ITF was cancelled in 2000, and the original Sierra studio in Oakhurst, California was closed, he has penned television episode scripts for The Roswell Conspiracies (BKN), KONG, The Animated Series (BKN), and X-Men: Evolution (Film Roman), and Journey to the Centre of the Earth (BKN) with Christy Marx.

Most recently Randy was the Voice Director and co-narrative writer for Legend of Alon D’ar (working title) a PS2 fantasy-adventure game for Stormfront Studios/UbiSoft for 2001, and published an article about adapting the tools of drama for interactive entertainment at Gamasutra.com.
