Carson Utz, a Massachusetts native, had planned to make use of his BA in Creative Writing and English Literature to work as a writer, but his purchase of a computer shortly after graduating from college got him hooked on something else: computer games. Teaching himself game design and several 2D and 3D art tools, he ended up working as a game/level designer for Mattel Interactive's Prince of Persia 3D. He even ended up doing some writing for it. His last role at Mattel was lead designer on an unannounced title.
Carson has also created quite a few popular single-player and multi-player levels for Quake II ("The Widening Gyre") and Quake III: Arena ("The Ring of Bone"). One of his CTF maps , "Smear Campaign", was released in id Software's Team Arena Map Pack 2.
