Yannis Brown

Developer BIO

Yannis started music at the age of 4 years old where he picked up a popular TV theme and played the melody without any prior tuition on his first electric organ.

From then he took Electone lessons for around 11 years but was never happy playing other people's music and felt the need to personalize or paraphrase what he was playing. This soon led to composition at the age of about 13 years old.

He out grew his Yamaha PSR keyboard, and his Roland D5 and moved into the world of computer composition with MODs using a software composition tool called ProTracker. ProTracker could be called a 4 channel sampler.

He became heavily involved with the Amiga and PC demo music scene both joining demo crews and entering composition competitions which he often won.

In 1999 he was approached by Tantalus Interactive to score the music for multi-platform game "South Park Rally". Highlights of the job included composing for a franchise he loved and having his music reviewed and approved by comic duo Trey Parker & Matt Stone!!

At this point in time Yannis had left his home country of Australia to pursue fortune and glory in the UK and wasn't very active musically until early 2002 where he wanted to pursue a career in games as a full time venture. He formalized the company GroovyAudio and began working in earnest on freeware/shareware and home-brew game projects to hone his skills in composition & sound design.

His hard work paid off fairly quickly and companies such as WebFoot, Macrospace, OneManBand & JamDat took a keen interest in his specialist composition and sound design skills for Hand Held games.

2003 saw Yannis leave his IT career and return to study at renowned Audio Engineering College SAE in Sydney.

Yannis graduated top of his class with a 93% grading with an Audio Engineering Diploma and was offered a job with Ratbag Games (later Midway Studios Australia) only 2 months out of graduation. He held the position of Lead Sound Designer with the company on two titles which unfortunately did not get published due to the studio being shut down due to "financial decisions" made by the publisher.

Since his move to professional audio development for the video game industry Yannis has contributed to well over 70 interactive titles in the span of about 4 years ranging from Wireless games & Gameboy Advance through to Console titles.

He has recently accepted a position again as an Audio Lead for a US-Based developer but has their blessing to continue with his own work - the mark of a great company!
