Jason Zimmerman's first steps into the video game industry was mid 96' with a small start up company, Synthic Studios. He used his skills as a graphic designer and content creator. From meager beginnings and an abundance of freelance graphic design work, he got the courage and vision to join with a couple of close friends in their own gaming studio, Six4 Studios. While working on two game titles at Six4 he created original content, level design, story boarded cut scenes and was the resident tech-geek. Sadly the two titles Six4 worked on never saw the light of day due to lack of financial support.
Zimmerman joined Sony Online Entertainment in October 2002 where he worked in the QA department's compatibility lab as a contract employee. Six months later he was hired on as a full time employee and worked as a QA assistant lead. After working as the assistant lead for several month he was moved over to the development team as an apprentice game designer. Six month later he was hired on as an associate game designer.
Shortly after the launch of EverQuest II Zimmerman left the EQ2 development team. This wasn't an easy decision, but was one that was made none the less. Zimmerman was offered a position back in the quality assurance department and accepted. Zimmerman currently leads the SOE compatibility lab where he manages a small team to ensure SOE's games work as they're intended to. From CPU's and GPU's to routers and network connections. This is a far cry from the creative walk of game design, but it is challenging. Jason Zimmerman plans on returning to game development after he completes his current positions level.
