Developer Biography

Richard is a passionate and hard working developer. He's been excited about video games since his mom showed him Donkey Kong at the bowling alley. Soon after, Santa brought him an Atari 2600 and he's been playing games ever since.

After spending years in school developing his skills in software engineering and animation, he put himself on the map with his first public project: the technoloG Bonus Pack - a mod project for the original Unreal Tournament.

Richard broke into the video game industry as a Programmer for the America's Army Game Project, built using the Unreal Engine. From there, he continued to use the Army Game as a platform for serious games projects at Virtual Heroes.

Feeling drawn back to games, Richard spent some time doing contract programming for several companies, again working with the latest Unreal technology.

Richard eventually found his home at Epic Games, where he focused on spreading the word about the Unreal Engine, as well as ensuring that licensees of Unreal technology received an outstanding support experience throughout their development cycle, via the Unreal Developer Network (UDN).

After an enjoyable career as a professional game developer, Richard has taken a step back to appreciate his life and how to better use the talents he feels he has been blessed with, along with the skills he acquired and evolved over the years, and the amazing experiences he has had. His focus is less specific on games and more focused on innovations in anything interactive, which still includes games. While many of these projects may not include credits to which you can identify him, you will notice his creative touch and strong eye for usability in many things that you may interact with on a regular basis. Most importantly, you'll often hear about his contributions to the success of other teams and projects - through his caring nature, dynamic personality and passionate drive to help others succeed.
