User AvatarYes, you're reading that. Two weeks ago, a 42-year-old Brazilian broke into a house in to reclaim a loan of R$ 42,00 (circa US$ 17,00) and took a 60-year-old women as a hostage using a Light Phaser, the light gun used with the Sega Master System. The police didn't notice it was a toy gun, but the man was also armed with two knifes, though, proving that he wasn't completely inoffensive.

Here's a picture of him holding the gun:
User AvatarLOL! Wouldn't have worked with the Zapper, that's for sure.

Looks like SEGA truly does what Nintendon't.
User AvatarDamn, hate to see what he would have used if they owed him like $50 or more.

The Video Shooting Series Light Gun of course, Nintendo's first device of that kind:

It was actually in his best interest to go SEGA, as the Light Phaser is still very common in Brazil and surely well known to the police. With Nintendo's revolver in his hand he might have died at the hands of a sniper. Splash!

SEGA saves lives. <3 <3

User AvatarThat's why the light guns were later being painted into cheery bright colours - to make them unfit for holding up people
User AvatarI think they can be used for that anyway, and it's not good to just assume a toy gun is harmless. Not only because they could mistake them, but also because they could be modified. I've read about school kids making lethal projectile weapons out of ballpens, so why not lightguns. It seems safest if the police just always assume that a weapon is real. People will just have to deal with the possibility of getting arrested or shot when the police tells them to stop pointing a gun at people, and they don't.

After the guy was arrested the police said they would check if the gun wasn't a real gun disguised as a toy, as that already happened before. In this case the whole thing seems really bizarre because the guy was reclaiming only 17 bucks. A real gun costs a lot more than that, not to mention a modified toy gun. In any case, the guy had also two knives, so he could really hurt that woman.
I nearly broke out laughing when I read the title, I tell you what though, that was ingenius. It would have been funnier if he used a Super Scope, now that would have comedy gold, but the worse part is it was for basically $17. Damn, hate to see what he would have used if they owed him like $50 or more.

User AvatarI can't believe it took somebody this long to actually do it. I mean, with all the crt tv's disappearing I thought this would be a epidemic by now ! 8)

Holding me hostage with a *fake* gun? Personally, I'd find that *especially* offensive!
User AvatarWhere's my G-Con 2? If he's done that with the Light Phaser... what can I do with my G-Con 2? :D

I can't take complete credit, I found it on another forum :(
User AvatarOh I saw this on CNN. The SWAT team arrived with Super Scopes.
