View Mode: threaded | watch thread Following up from the previous news item on it, the UK based GAME group has now gone into administration, protecting it from creditors and allow it to continue trading, previously having had no luck finding a buyer. This comes just hours after they delisted themselves from the London Stock Exchange.Currently, the group plan on gutting the GAME side of their business, and replacing it with a new games specialist store from scratch, which they plan to unveil on Monday the 26th. However, this plan only involves the GAME stores the UK and Spain, with others in other countries most likely be closed down. Game group have also announced they could be potentially be sacrificing the GameStation side of the groups business, except for the most profitable stores. I hope with the new outfit I'll still have somewhere to just buy a random game for an older recent system (and not just the usual sports annuals and film licenses like my local independent shop, either). Online retailers are a pain to navigate even when looking for new releases.
It's been a long time since I've known the luxury of such a thing. About 8 years ago EBgames bought up the chain of stores I used to visit, and closed down all of their locations a few weeks after. They used to have a huge selection, older titles too, and staff who knew about games. Any remaining brick-and-mortar game stores seem to limit their stock to the 20 most recent blockbuster titles of each of the current systems. If you already know that there are no "treasures" to be found, why would you even go there anymore?
The administrators for the group have just announced a slew of store closures, from both GAME and GameStation, with staff not even getting redundancy pay from the company...http://www.oxm.co.uk/40136/games-aftermath-job-losses-store-protests-and-circling-vultures/ It looks like they've just been saved. Hopefully now, they can start buying in stock of all the titles I haven't been able to find anywhere else.

Unfortunately, no word on the GameStation side of the company, which if I'm honest, I would much rather be saved, simply on account of their (marginally) better returns policy and (mainly) their better pre owned prices and better staff, at least going on my nearest game and GameStation store. On the subject of the two stores, I wonder what OpCapita would do about so many of them being in close proximity to each other? Could be a potential stumbling block. http://www.oxm.co.uk/40283/game-saved-comet-owner-buys-game-and-gamestation-for-pound1-report/Deal confirmed for both Game and GameStation. Good news for their remaining staff. (Edited by Sciere Re: Update: GAME group goes into administration. aaron larson, May 02, 2012

I'm guessing it's supposed to be Winnie the Pooh from how it looks in the quote page, but the world may never know for sure.
