If you are a Tex Murphy fan and happened to complete Tex Murphy: Overseer, the last of his adventures, you will know that the game ends with a cliffhanger. There were originally going to be two more games that follow on straight after it left off but these were eventually cancelled. Since then, Chris Jones and Aaron Connors had formed Big Finish Games. They also pitched their ideas for a new Tex Murphy game to several companies only to have them rejected.
Now they are turning to you, the fans, to help them fund money for the project. $450,000 is the target amount and you can pledge until Saturday, June 16 at 01:51 EDT. When the target is met, not only would the new game follow on from Overseer, but it will include everything that made the Tex Murphy games great, including the use of Full Motion Video and multiple paths/solutions. In addition, Project Fedora would be DRM-free. The Kickstarter page can be found here. ![]() *Katakis* Wrote:
All that we ask is that the news item be interesting, loosely video game related and not blatant self-promotion.
Not self-promotion, but still. This is how Kickstarter needs to be done. They're clear on what they're doing. They've got video proving they can do it. None of this "well, we'd like to do an adventure game of some type but we don't know the plot or characters or setting yet..."They have my sword. My sword made of money. With GOG.com also doing an entire campaign for this, seems to me like the most widely promoted Kickstarter gaming project yet. Hm...

I really hope this kickstarter will be successful. While I invested in a few of the recent gaming projects, some with considerable amounts, this is the only one I am emotionally invested in. Tex Murphy belongs to my favourite adventure game series because they are one of the few which manage to combine live-action footage (which I like even in not-so-great-games) with great gameplay. Also that nasty cliffhanger.
Next up on my wish list: Toonstruck 2. Who knows if kickstarting would have accelerated the release (now scheduled for Sept 24?!) of The Fool And His Money?

We saw a huge number of backers tonight and now the goal is almost reached. We are only about $7000 short with eight days to go. The project will make it, there is absolutely no reason to believe otherwise. However, every dollar over the stretch goal will be invested into making the game even better.
When the kickstarter founding is meet, which I expect to happen today or tomorrow, a paypal link will be added for people without a credit card. Remember, the finished game will surely be more expensive than the 15 dollars you have to invest during the kickstarter campaign.
The goal has already been reached. :)
Now on to the stretch goals! Which means subtitles in various languages and some big name actors, amongst others.
Excellent news! I was a little worried there, but great to see it made it!
The Two Guys From Andromeda have also just made it. Exciting times.

The kickstarter campaign is over and reached almost €600.000! This means the game is funded and all stretch goals are met.

When you includes paypal payments it's actually over $600k : Kickstarter $598104 + Paypal $15403 = Total $613507 (over 136% of the minimal funding required). |
