View Mode: threaded | watch thread 2012 was a great year of platform expansion. Following a few years of relative draught, with new platforms only being added sporadically, 2012 was almost like a non-stopping flood. Important platforms (mostly European and Japanese historical computers) are now covered much more extensively. In terms of contributions, the year was marked by a gigantic race between the Israeli Unicorn Lynx and our long-time top contributor and admin Sciere from Belgium. Both of them (!) broke the record for most points scored in a single year, with about 43000 and 40000, respectively. For Unicorn Lynx it is the second championship title, his last one dating as far back as 2001. Let us wish a happy and productive New Year 2013 to MobyGames! I hope to gather enough credits coming year to compete with you both. Majority of 2012 score was contributed since June, so there are potential for more.
You've already scored 1271 points in the two days of 2013. If you continue with the same speed you will have about 231322 points by the end of the year. That's... a lot :)
(Edited by Klaster_1 (57844), Jan 02, 2013) Re: The year 2012 on MobyGames Klaster_1 (57844), Jan 02, 2013 Nah, not enough credits. As of several days ago, PS3×360×Windows I specialize at had about 190 crossing entries. It takes a lot of effort to find good video at YouTube or capture it yourself, especially after BitGamer closing. And there's competition by GTramp - he just snatched 500+ Far Cry 3 from under my nose. Such cases.I'd be glad to apprehend jailbroken 360, maybe later, when I find new job. To be clear: this isn't just Klaster running his script and pressing submit. They come with a full independent source and often many fixes for errors in the original credits. Still a lot of work.
Hey, just to make it clear - sorry, but I didn't intend to snatch it. I beat the game, took screenshots of credits, went to the game page, saw some credits already approved and used your script. Only afterwards I realized that those X360 credits were just barely approved and I kinda snatched the Windows credits points. Sorry, mate, it was unintentional.
No hard feelings, don't worry.
I think I just broke my personal record: 281 screenshots for one credit submission.

Yikes! I think the most I've ever had on one was around 70 or so, and even that was a huge amount of work. Though to be fair that was Japanese stuff that needed translation. Tangentially related: Could someone please push those Tengai Makyo III credits through? :) Edit: Thanks Sciere! I felt accomplished simply hitting a total tally of 40k, and here you guys have done that within just one year! Keep up the excellent work. It's fun simply to see what new games have been added each day, even (especially) when it's the pervy Japanese '90s computer stuff that Oleg adds. ;)
(Edited by Cavalary (4537), Dec 31, 2012) Re: The year 2012 on MobyGames Cavalary (4537), Dec 31, 2012 Grats to you two, and to everyone else who's still putting in the time and effort here in spite of everything.Me, I'm just happy to have gotten more this year than the last and to still (depending on what those below still have in queue, hmm...) just make it in the top 40. Or, well, IF I'll get more this year than the last, that is, as that'll require... 516 points out of the 600+ currently in queue being approved, and with ~95% of that being mobyranks, which may go down in heaps if a site poofs (GamePro, GameShark, Gamez.nl, MEGamers seems to be on its way now too after IGN apparently grabbed it, ...) or changes layout in a way that makes scores listed previously poof (INC Gamers, GamingTrend...), that's still iffy. Did slack off through most of the year though, shown by the push this month to get there. But here's to hoping the next will go even better. Speaking of the next year, MobyGames will turn 14 in 2013, right? Over here it'd be getting its ID card :p Wow, I scored a whopping 267 points in the last year (mostly cover art scans). Can't believe I even got that many.Strange to think that if I actually got around to entering all the un-entered games in my collection, and doing screenshot recon for the rest (where no screenshots presently exist), all in one year, I could easily be competitive with the 40k mark. Yeah, I've been here for 10 years and just reached 30K this year. Well, I've been a lot more active in past years, but it is satisfying just to keep around you guys. My wishes for 2013 regarding MobyGames is that we don't lose any more of the regulars.
Especially considering that both are also the most active approvers.
The top 50, according to country: (the number in brackets is compared to last year) Americans: 8 (-3) Germans: 6 (-2) French: 4 (+1) Polish: 3 (+1) Russians: 3 Swedish: 3 (+1) British: 3 (+1) Worldwide: 3 (+2) Brazilians: 2 Canadians: 2 Dutch: 2 n/a: 2 (+1) Israeli: 1 Belgian: 1 (-1) South Korean: 1 Japanese: 1 Norwegian: 1 (+1) Ukrainian: 1 South African: 1 Italian: 1 Romanian: 1 Please keep in mind as things get approved this list will need to be updated I'd like to thank our staff for adding the new platforms, our contributors for adding many new titles, and our tireless approvers for reviewing them.I'd like to nominate Rwolf for Best Newcomer 2012 award, who got to Top20 of 2012 in about 2 months. Second the nomination. I'd also like to mention 486pc, who submitted many interesting covers for old PC games. And of course Hello X) with his impressive C64 new game submissions, even though he fell victim to his own temper.
Let's hope the new platforms keep coming and get filled. And *cough*hopefully*cough* we'll get that site redesign before the years out. An awesome achievement.
Congratulations to you both and a Happy New Year to all
Grand total of 7 points in 2012. A few more weeks, I'll be off the top 50 contributor list. Yay!
New year, new goals, I see.
