We kicked down the points you get for product codes such as UPC and Sony Part Numbers from 1 point to 1/4 point. The response was overwhelming. In only a few short days almost 1000 product codes were contributed. However after some discussion we felt that 1 point was a little too generous given the effort compared to say writing a review or a game description. As always comments are welcome.
It would seem that balancing the points awarded for various contributions is part of the Mobygames administration nightmare that I'm glad I'm not a part of. 1/4 point seems about right, as it can take a comparable amount of time to pull that information off of a game box as it does to thoughtfully rate a game. But then again, I get POINTS out of my system via ranked Battlefield 2, so my view might not be shared by others.
Well, one point was too high, especially when compared to other items which receive the same score like ad blurbs, where some can't be copy-pasted and often include many languages one isn't used to) but this places them at the same level as rating a game. Half point would be fairer, IMHO.
I agree with all, ad blurbs are a headache sometimes and obtaining the code number is easy but rating a game is... well you only have to do 2 or 3 clicks. Half point is better I think
