It's May and we are in Los Angeles so it must be E3. We had early access media passes so we got to explore the exhibits for two hours without the rest of the herd. We quickly checked out EA, Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo. I got my hands on some playable PS3 games. Warbirds is visually impressive, but after playing it for a few minutes I cannot really say if it is a great game or not. The controller had the motion detector doohickey and was working with the game. Is this generation the age of the controller? Force feedback was cool, but this is a whole new dimension. No actually PS3 units. Instead there were racks and racks of what I can only guess were powerful servers running Windows with the Sony SDK on top. Brian and I played some Guitar Hero II for PS2. The new co-op mode is way fun. I played lead and Brian bass. We managed to crank out War Pigs as made famous by Black Sabbath. We also stopped by the Nintendo set up. The line to see and play Wii was well over a hour long. Over an hour long?!?! This was when they were only allowing registered press in. Of course if we had gotten an early start we could of scheduled a guided walkthrough. Why do we always wait to the last minute? There are of course plenty of booth babes around. The ESA has said they were going to crack down on the skimpy outfits. For some reason pretty women in revealing outfits is considered controversial. If the publishers think this sell mores games more power to them. Of course this really torques the video games as art crowd ( of which I consider myself ). We will be posting as the show goes on. Wish you were here.
I don't suppose there is anything at E3 about Spore or Neverwinter Nights 2 or Heroes of Might and Magic 5? Those are three upcoming games that I'm waiting on and it would be interesting to hear more about any of them. I'm sure HOMM5 won't be there as it should be released really soon and NWN2 probably will also be released soon, so that's probably not there... just added them as they are ones I am waiting on. But Spore could be there even though it was there last year (I think). If you see anything of those three games, perhaps you can let me know? :)Enjoy the show! I wish I was there. There are some new screenshots for Spore, as well as a new trailer.
Oooh! Thanks! And, I appear to have looked for HOMM5 info a bit late. I just saw an article mentioning that it was released. I'll have to take a look. :) Spore looks like it could be the up and coming game of the year.I'm buying that game on launch day. Same here. Even if it is one that never really ends, it looks great! If anyone here hasn't seen the other movies (there's an hour-long movie and also a 30 minute outtake of that movie that just shows the game rather than all the introduction and ending comments about it), you can do a search on the forum for Spore and you'll find the links. Or, go to Google Videos and you'll find them there if you search for Spore.
(Edited by Matt Neuteboom (941), May 11, 2006) Re: E3 first impressions Matt Neuteboom (941), May 11, 2006 I do beleive you are talkign about this video that is a half an hour long. It looks absolutely amazing, plus Will Wright is doing it and hes the genius that berought us the Sims, the best-selling PC game of all time (replacing Myst). Spore should revolutionize gaming just like the sims did when it came out.
Yeah, that's it.Here is the full hour-long one. It's really worth watching the full video. Will Wright's commentary in the intro and conclusion are worth listening to, even if it doesn't show the game itself in that other half an hour.
