Angry Gamer, that grumpy video game curmudgeon, is running a Op-Ed titles "Gaming Systems We Don't Have To Pretend We Like Any More". I am sure many MobyGamers will not necessarily agree with the piece, it still is a funny read.
"Atari 2600: I love my 2600 but Holy Bleeding Christ am I sick of talking to people about it. Wow, you used to play Frogger too? F**k me, what are the odds?"
I love all my old systems. I wouldn't call myself a great collector ( too careless ), yet I do have a shrine to all my long unplayed consoles under the TV. Any systems should be added to the list? Any system on the list unfairly?
What? Discard the Neo Geo?!? You bastards... :@
Well, this is certainly going to be a highly subjective thread...the best kind! :)
The Apple 2e/c/gs? How dare they?! We got to play games on it *during school* for goodness sake. Nothing cooler than that! And ok, the Atari 2600 was never that good, but it's still massively important to gaming history. Try saying that about the Vectrex...
I'd add the Sega Saturn, Atari Jaguar, all non-Gameboy handhelds, and anything and everything "virtual reality" to the list of platforms that can safely be forgotten. If you can't name more than one or two games that are killer apps for a system, then you just don't need to own it.
What?! Sega Saturn?!! How DARE you... :)~
But he still hugs his Commodore 64 like an old teddy bear? Practice what you preach, dude, or your rant is worthless.
Hahaha, VERY true about the Pokémon Mini. I've got one of those and all FOUR (or three? I forget) games that came out for it. You could tell that Nintendo didn't give a damn about it when they announced its existence at a European trade show.
Still, Puzzle Collection is pretty cool. And I wish Pokémon Tetris got released locally... Ah well!
I'm amazed he's putting Playstation 2 in the list! If there is a console system that should be kept for all times, this is it!
And why is there no Nintendo 64 in the list? :)~
And here I am having just bought Tom Clancy SSM [Windows 95] !! BUT I did not get the keyboard and/or mouse configuration instructions. Anyone out there in retro world can help?? Thanks Ray
Judging by his forum message/avatar, he's probably just looking for attention. No sane person would place a few of those systems on such a list.
angry gamer, attention whore? well, duh! dropping the f-bomb every other sentence kind of gave that away. :)
N64s got too many classics on it to throw away. Tell a gamer to throw away Goldeneye and your bound to get punched in the face.
That's a matter of taste, of course, but I live happily without Goldeneye, or any game released for N64, for that matter.
Being a RPG fan, I simply can't have any admiration towards N64. NES and SNES were absolute leaders in this genre for more than a decade. Those were consoles with serious, mature, and controversial RPGs. There was nothing of the kind on the N64. It was one of the RPG-poorest consoles of all times - and amazingly, it was made by the company that had been leading the market until then.
YID YANG Wrote:
Nintendo never developed many RPGs. The rich library of RPG on SNES was done by a variety of third party companies, notably Enix, Square and Atlus. None of these companies had a very large N64 presence (though Atlus did release Ogre Battle 64). The N64 companies that remained simply didn't focus much of RPG style games. So you're right: The library is poor.
On the other hand, Paper Mario is a great game!
