Fallout fans rejoice
nullnullnull (1473), Dec 13, 2006
Next Gen is running a story that Interplay is planning a Fallout MMOG. The news was "broken" by a SEC filing. The proposed $75 million dollar price tag is large enough to have to raise money in the public financial markets, thus the filing.

Does the world need another MMOG? Does $75 million seem a bit steep? Would you buy a mutual fund that invests in video game projects?

User AvatarThat has been planned for some time now. It was just never really all that official. It could be good... but I just can't see a Fallout game being realtime. Turn based is part of what makes a Fallout game, imo.

User AvatarNot going to happen. Who in their right mind will give Caen that cash after he killed both Titus and Interplay?

User AvatarTo answer your questions;

1. NO 2. YES 3. Well, if most of my portfolio was in less volatile investments and the majority of the mutual fund was invested in say, blue chips yet they were attempting to diversify just a little bit, I could accept a mutual fund that invested a tiny amount in a video game project.

User AvatarI have yet to see an MMO that makes me want to play them. I loved Shenmue, but I wouldn't even touch Shenmue Online if it came stateside. All I've ever seen in any of these games is a glorified chatroom with no real goal. I've sat and watched my friends play for a few hours on various MMOs and couldn't see what the deal was. I asked them why they play them and how they can enjoy them, and they had no real answer whatsoever.

I've got a major rant built up, but I'm not going to do it. Simply put, I hate the genre and the fact that it's such a cash cow.

User AvatarThere's a Shenmue Online??? What is it about? Racing other people in small freight lifters? Or playing outrun?

User AvatarThey should've made single-player Fallout 3 with turn-based combat...

Bethesda is already taking care of that... although it might not have turn-based combat. No need for two different companies making Fallout 3.

No, but the world needs another Fallout game (done properly).

True. But who? (oooh, that rhymes!). Troika is already dead due to one too many good games with unforgiveable bugs. Besides I wonder with the young market and game industry giants still remember or know what "turned-based" is?

If Fallout 3 does come out. Wait for Patch v10 before playing the game. Doh.

Yes, of course...but what does "done properly" mean?

For me, it definitely means isometric and turn-based. For most marketing departments, though, it's gotta be real-time and 3D. Sadly, I can't imagine a new Fallout looking like the old Fallouts, and not like Oblivion or WOW.

Agreed. Too many people think that only realtime is acceptable in a modern game, but that's a bit rediculous. Sure, realtime is great... but it isn't the best option for every single game out there. I still enjoy my turn based games and fallout deserves to be turn based.

(Hardcore fan that she is.)
User AvatarI hope they don't ruin a good thing. Fallout was such a nice series.

Though some collector's might not care for it, I'd love to see the first two games re-released in a compilation sometime in the future. (Possibly near release of the newer offerings.)

User AvatarOther than this one? It does have Tactics as well, but I don't know why that's a bad thing. Of course, I don't claim to be a "real" collector. I just want the games... I don't care if they come in a compilation or have a box or not. :)

User AvatarYeah, a new collection. I never see the older one in stores. (or just a re-release of the collection if it has no problems with XP SP2.)
