1C Company announced that their current game in progress (working title Battle Lord) was changing its name to “King’s Bounty™: The Legend” and switching assets in order to try to recreate and upgrade the original. The game promises to take all the best ideas from the original and show them a new 3-D view. The game is being developed by Katauri Interactive, witch generally consists of people from Elemental Games, developers of the Space Rangers Series.
Will that people will able really rejuvenate that great game? Haven't most remakes/upgrades of classic titles fallen flat on their face?
But isn't King's Bounty a New World Computing game - the original Might & Magic company? How can they do that?
They bought rights for this trademark I think.
Well, looking at what purports to be a screenshot over at Celestial Heavens, it at least looks pretty nice.
Edit - and I see there are more screenshots at the 1C company page. It is April Fools Day, though....

There are comments on the first screenshot page dating back to March 28th. Coulda been buildup to a prank, it's true.

Remaking King's Bounty? Whaddya (anyone know how to use whaddya for "they") think HoMM was all this time?. Hell the last one got boring.
Remakes are not necessarily bad. Just look at the remake of Sid Meier's Pirates!, which is terrific.
King's Bounty is a bit different, though. It's not like there haven't been sequels (HOMM 1-5) or similar games (the Warlords, Disciples, and Age of Wonders series) that were plenty good in their own right. So...what's the point of a King's Bounty remake, exactly?
It’s more complicated than that. Developers was big fans of King's Bounty and so they start making game that will be like they like it, at some point it become too much KB that it can be and so then 1C need really strong name for it :). And so there not much assets switching going on, in most parts as I can see they change only logo. ;) It really cool game right now, that only problem that I see right now – localization to English can kill a lot of good staffs in game, like it happened in Space Rangers :(
