View Mode: threaded | watch thread This is not another hoax! After more than 6 years since the last video, Duke Nukem Forever has another glimpse of what the long-delayed game can be (when it's done...). As announced by George Broussard itself:(...)Tomorrow, Wednesday the 19th, around noon CST, we will release the first teaser trailer from Duke Nukem Forever. To tide you over until then, here is a screen shot taken from the teaser. The 1-minute long video put the developers servers on their knees, but they managed to publish it on a lot of mirrors and it's easier now to watch it or download it. More details on the 3D Realms website. That music sure brought back memories...
(Edited by St. Martyne Re: Duke Nukem Forever is Coming: Teaser Released! St. Martyne Meh, too much electronica. They should've used/refer to the Megadeth version.Anyway, the teaser was fun. Now, get back to work, folks. Nothing more to see here. See you in a year or so.
looked kind of lame compared to 2001 E3 trailer
Well it's just a teaser, the promised a proper trailer like the 2001 one in the near future. For being a teaser, it got at least me wanting for me. Never played a Duke game before. I might get so I have a little peice of gaming history.
It's been in devlopement for what ? 11 years ?
According to 3DRealms FAQ it was re-written just once. And, officially, the development was never postponed.
It must have been at least twice, because we have seen two trailer before this one, and development was restarted after those were released. I remember reading that they started on the current incarnation in 2004 or so.Once this comes out (yes, I believe!), they better put together some awesome making-of features showing the different versions. Taken from FAQ: How long the game has taken to develop. We had too few programmers early on. Some tech took too long to do. We switched engines (only once despite what you might read elsewhere). We started over a time or two. And a bunch of other stuff. Point is, we know it's late, and you know it's late. I was referring to the "engine changing" thing that usually entails a total conversion of the previously created material. (Edited by Daniel Saner (2262), Dec 26, 2007) Re: Duke Nukem Forever is Coming: Teaser Released! Daniel Saner (2262), Dec 26, 2007 Well I was a little bit disappointed in the trailer itself. Mostly rendered, the stuff that is not looks like a Doom 3 knockoff, and the smoke effect in the end is cheap. But hey, as they said it's just a teaser they made for their christmas party.
Personally I would have thought that they should have come up with something really jaw-dropping and "in your face", something that packs a punch like the 2001 trailer did back then... but on the other gaming sites I visit the teaser still got the Duke-haters to shut up! And the most important thing is the confirmation that the Duke is alive... On another note, I myself have given up hope that DNF will be able to beat DN3D. It probably never could have done that anyway. I'll be a lot happier if I don't keep my hopes up too high. Given the game's concept it'll be pretty hard to mess it up. Visulas: gimme bigger explosions, forget about the rest. Sound: as long as Jon will do Duke, it's fine. Gameplay: fabled interactivity is about the only place they can get wrong. Considering early trailers they were on the right track. But, hey, even DN3D failed to do it right in the later portions of the game (alien-infested/space levels). Yeah, but Duke3Ds love for detail and secrets were absolutely incredible. My point is, we're used to a lot more detail today, and a new game would have a much harder time to achieve the effect that DN3D did 11 years ago.
But I agree that as long as we have the classic bad-ass-ness of the Duke, and Jon's one-liners, it's pretty hard to mess it up completely. |
