View Mode: threaded | watch thread Users may have noticed some issues while visiting the site. Some may have noticed that the recent addition/update boxes on the front page disappear from time to time and getting errors when uploading large files. Due to everyone's wonderful contributions to the site it has had the effect of filling up our disk space. As a temporary fix, some data has been moved until something more permanent can be worked next week. Please be patient with the site if we happen to fill up space again. Thank you all for contributing so much to have this issue come up.
That's cool, I thought maybe something was wrong with my computer, glad to see the site working again.
Whew. Glad it's nothing horribly serious that would result in this entire site imploding.A little answer like that just helps to assure me the sky isn't falling. Thanks for giving us the heads up on some of the details. :) (Edited by DANIEL HAWKS ! (1841), Apr 10, 2008) Re: Houston, we have a problem... DANIEL HAWKS ! (1841), Apr 10, 2008 How does one go about getting another hard drive for the site ? If the thing fills up that means slow going for submissions. I've only got a news article pending. That's like what ? 20 kb ?Edit- I suppose this post is taking up space. And I just made it bigger. DOH ! Edit- and a game added to a game group. I really need to stop. Edit- 8) The interesting question however would be, about what dimensions are we talking here? Or better, how many Terabytes does MobyGames already fill? :)
(Edited by DANIEL HAWKS ! (1841), Apr 11, 2008) Re: Houston, we have a problem... DANIEL HAWKS ! (1841), Apr 11, 2008 Oh yeah..I forgot that websites store info in the terabytes. I suppose it'll be expensive to get a new hard drive.
It isn't just your ordinary message post or game description, but all those cover arts and screenshots take away some space. You may look at a set of covers which are maybe 8 files totalling 1 MB, but those are the resized versions. The original submitted are still there in the background. Some people submit cover files with ~200 KB, some other submit them with >10 MB (per file!)... some people submit screenshots with ~1 KB or >1 MB (depending on game and on file format). With ten or hundred thousands of files, this eventually sums up.
Oooohhhh. So those 4 megabyte plus Pac Man screenshots I submitted aren't helping anything.
Today, I was thinking the same thing! I've already said this, but my computer's sort of broke and slow...
I hadn't noticed. Should I not contribute cover art or screenshots for a while, until the problem is resolved?
no it's fine
