User AvatarWhat is your opinion on Duke Nukem Forever?

• Bring it on!
• Thirteen years in development? Riiiiiight.
• I also believe in the Easter Bunny.
• Meh.

User AvatarSoooo.... about those outdated polls...
User AvatarIt's not technically outdated. Despite firing their entire development staff, Scott Miller still maintains that Duke Nukem Forever is being worked on. I dunno, I want to believe that it's still a possibility. I'm a fan of the legend behind Duke Nukem Forever, and I'd rather it didn't just die out.
User AvatarOh, I'd still play it if it came out. But if he ever releases it, I'll eat my hat. Then buy a new hat and eat that too.

I'm going to hold you to that. Now I have two reasons to look forward to this game's release.
User AvatarMy memory is a bit sketchy if not working at all. But how many games of this kind actually made it to being released?
User AvatarPrey did. I'm not aware of any others.
User AvatarThe Dig went through various stages of development hell. It took seven years and three different versions to eventually get released. Limbo of the Lost took 14 years to get released (to hilarious results) but that was just three guys and not a whole company. In a kind of reverse example Resident Evil 4 was in development for at least six years and older versions of the game kept spiraling out into their own games.
User AvatarI would play it, but I have an adverse reaction to monumental anti-climaxes.
User AvatarOh, I'm playing it. This, Starcraft: Ghost, and Half-Life: Episode 3.
User AvatarThey should just make a Duke Nukem movie and call it Duke Nukem Forever so that we'll let it go.
Probably would've sucked even if it did come out.

It was a mixed bag, judging from the material they released after the development team was disbanded. The overall feel of the game was too much like every other sci-fi alien shooter clone out there. Some Prey/Doom/Quake/Unreal/AvP mash. A long way from the lovely, detailed levels of DN3D.

On other accounts, they seem to have kept to the spirit of the series. They said the storyline would have started out with Duke playing his own videogame (which would have been the first moments of play) out of vanity and boredom for a severe lack of alien ass to kick. Very reminiscent of the beginning of Duke 2 actually.

I think it could have been fun, although certainly not as ground-breaking as DN3D. Meaning that it probably wouldn't even have been able to stand the ground of its own predecessor. But I'm curious to see that whoever picked or picks up the game is going to do with it. Can get better, can get worse.
User AvatarThe problem with DNF is that all the exciting new features it was supposed to bring to the table have already been introduced by other FPP games in the meanwhile. So DNF wouldn't have anything new to offer if it was released today.

And besides, would they want to destroy the legend by actually releasing the game? It would be like capturing the Yeti - the legend would be over ;(
User AvatarFormula for DNF:

Interaction+Real World Locations+Aliens Butts+Jon St. John+No repetitions

Real World Locations

That's what they forgot, I think. Most screenshots looked like something out of Quake.
