User AvatarThis seems to be the most common mistake in new submissions.

MobyGames currently classifies the so-called "action-adventures" (itself a debatable term) as action games. Please keep this in mind when submitting new game entries.

Games like Zelda are not adventures; they are Action + Puzzle-solving. God of War, Prince of Persia, etc. are not adventures: Action + Platform + Puzzle-solving is the definition. Saints Row 3 or other sandbox action and driving games are not adventures: they should be marked with Action + Racing / Driving.

In short, "Adventure" on MobyGames is reserved only for true adventure games: LucasArts, Sierra, Myst-style, Japanese Snatcher-like, etc.

Whether you approve of this classification or not, it should stay this way now, because otherwise chaos will ensue.

And visual novels or interactive-movie like games.

Ok, I guess this includes all the point-and-click and hidden-objects and escape-the-rooms games ?

User AvatarI have seen hidden object games both classified as Action or Adventure on MobyGames, the former probably with the justification of solving puzzles with a time limit. I'd say it depends on the prevalence of storytelling and logic puzzles; some HOG can also contain quite intricate non-HO puzzles. See for example the Mystery Case Files series, where earlier games are classified as Action, and later games with more traditional Adventure elements as Adventure. In either case they will have the Puzzle-solving theme added as well.
