User AvatarA question to all Wii contributors/approvers out there. I've read that Wii's native resolution is 640*480, is that so? Also emulator (latest Dolphin) suggests that native resolution is 640*528 which is a bit confusing. This however may relate to wide-screen TV's.

So I turned off all emulator's bells and whistles and took a sample shot. Is it good enough to be approved? Any suggestions?

User AvatarThanks! Now that's trickier than it should be, cutting edges always sucks. Took me some time to manually adjust the borders and get that 848x480 (476).

Pls take a look at this shot

Is it OK?
User AvatarI can't get the full image, use imgur.com instead?
User AvatarAre you using Native 1x resolution, scaled EFB copying off, AA and Anisotropy to 0?

User AvatarYes, yes and yes. Anisotropic is 1x, however, there's no "0" option.

User AvatarLooks good!
User Avatar"Looks good" in the context means it looks just awful without all the graphical enhancements :)
PS2 and GameCube shots question
GTramp (17832), Oct 05, 2012
User AvatarI'd now like to contribute some PS2 and GameCube screens and I'm new to these systems, so... I'm sure the correct emulator settings for this were discussed more than once, but I didn't find anything related here in the forums...

So, what's the correct resolution and what settings should I use for the emulators to get approvable shots?

User AvatarFor the PS2:
  • 480i
  • 480p
  • 576p
  • 720p
  • 1080i
It depends of the game, but we have a lot of 640x480 ones on file. I have no further experience capturing PS2 or GC.
User AvatarOK, so whom should I show test screenshots for these systems, so that I don't get them rejected later?
User AvatarI'm not that someone, but might help as well. Check out the wiki page for GameCube, it states supported video modes and resolutions. Also, my screenshots made in Dolphin without any enhancements at 640x480 were approved easily.
User AvatarThanks!
User AvatarAlmost every PS2 game is 480i. Wiki has a list of all the 480p ones, and most of those games need a special code or setting to activate that mode. As far as I know Valkyrie Profile 2 is the only game with a 1080i mode, but that was just tossed in the game as a technology demo and its basically unplayable like that.
User AvatarGran Turismo 4 has got 1080i as well.
In the case of the PS2, the emulator is able to give you the screenshots directly in native resolution. Most of the NTSC (or PAL 60Hz) games I captured screens from had 640x448 instead of 640x480, presumably because more than 448 lines is already defined as overscan on old NTSC TVs.

User AvatarIs there an option to capture screens internally in PCSX2? Or did you use another emulator?

Well, its F8, OK. I made a shot with emulator's internal function, but it looks wrong... This creepy 512x512 resolution and .bmp format?

Resolution is certainly legit. Some titles should even output 240p, but I don't know how the emulator handles that, and I'm not sure how interlacing and plugins exactly factor in.The bmp files I usually batch-convert with Irfanview into png or jpg.

You can perhaps additionally stretch that screen to 4:3, I don't know if that's allowed with advanced platforms like the PS2, unlike older consoles. It looks fine to me when using an advanced filter.
