Project: Random MobyGames Slogan
Indra was here Bronze Star Contributing Member (14942), May 25, 2007
User AvatarThere was this discussion on the use of the "Random Thoughts" feature, which is probably (not by choice) has already been memorized by many mobyusers here. Anyway, Chirinea thought of an idea to either replace or include weird or funny slogans for mobygames. That or embarrasing secrets of the admins and approvers for public display. Er.

I'll edit and post all inputs in this first topic. Gui, if you please.

(alphabetically)

  • MobyGames: A detour from having a real life - Indra
  • MobyGames: Home is where your tentacle porn is - Indra
  • MobyGames: Other websites are more like masturbation. MobyGames is like full-fledged sex in all possible positions. - Oleg's Unicorn
  • MobyGames: We enjoy games more fantastically! - User ID withheld.
  • MobyGames: Where Flame War turns to Metaphysical Discussion - General Error
  • MobyGames: Where Girls pretend to be Men - Chirinea
  • MobyGames: Where we turn a leisure activity into an onerous obligation - Pseudo
  • MobyGames: Your #1 Spam Review Site - General Error

User AvatarReally nice of you blaming me for this bloody idea, sir. That's why I use to call you a friend. =P

Anyway, so far we already had some good suggestions, I'll try to gather them all here, and you all should write yours also. Of course, if everybody else just think this is a stupid idea, well... let's say that just made me think of another slogan, mwahaha!

OK, this is what we've got so far:
    • MobyGames: we enjoy games more fantastically!
    • MobyGames: A detour to having a real life - Indra
    • MobyGames: where we turn a leisure activity into an onerous obligation - Pseudo
    • MobyGames: Your #1 spam review site - General Error
    • MobyGames: Where flame war turns to metaphysical discussion - General Error
    • MobyGames: Where girls pretend to be men (well, this one needs a bit of explanation really, but anyway, let us make people wonder!)

We can also track possible random thoughts, so Indra asked me to add this:
    • Mobygames is like a very ugly woman with a nice personality. You can't stand looking at her, even though you know you belong together. - Iggy
Notice that the initial idea isn't mentioning the author, so we can spare everybody from social distress. :)
User AvatarYou forgot the most important one:

  • Wah! MobyGames is free oh!
  • User Avatar"MobyGames: Where girls pretend to be men (well, this one needs a bit of explanation really, but anyway, let us make people wonder!)"

Ok, I'll bite :-) , what does it mean?
User AvatarWell, that's funnier without knowing where it came from, actually. But I'll tell. Indra and I were talking in our IRC channel, and the raw male nature was being exposed there, if you know what I mean. Then I said something like "I'm glad there ain't no girls around" to what he replyed "how many mobyusers out there do you think are really, really male anyway? you never know, some could be only acting. Look at me, I have gender issues with my avatar." That's when I came up with the slogan, to which he said "Ooooh. That's is one scary slogan!"

And that's it. Now I feel like a bad comediant, the one who uses to explain his jokes... =D

User AvatarBut you're not having to explain, you're telling it to a new audience for the first time. Guess it didn't help that you started with the punchline, though.;-)

BTW, somebody explained to me that a lot of guys like to use female avatars because they want something nice to look at in the forums. And other people treat them better even if they know it's really a male - subconcious issues...

It looks like you think that people treat cats better than human beings :)

I don't know about having a female avatar in forums, but I often choose female protagonists in games that allow me to do so. Guess I like controlling women :)
User Avatar"It looks like you think that people treat cats better than human beings :)" He he, no I just like to have something nice to look at ;-P

Just like me, Mom, just like me...
User AvatarWell, I like your avatar, GE...having those eyes rolling and popping while I'm reading a post is sometimes unnerving, but it keeps me on my toes :-). Besudes, I like blue-green!

We concur. Better for a guy using a Cindy Crawford avatar than using one of Brad Pitt. Eww.

It does become a problem when some idiot teenager thinks your the real thing and starts stalking you. So far I've had 2 Brazilians, 1 Arab, 3 Americans stalking me for my last avatar. Hehe.

Actually, even regardless of the avatar, it takes some mental work to understand that Indra/Inderanta is a male name. I also thought you're a girl (though this was no reason for me to stalk you).

But Indra is a famous god in Hinduism. One myth specifically refers to the fact that Indra (the god, not the resident deranged MobyGames philosopher) wanted some woman so badly that his balls hurt. So he obviously can't be female.

    ...Pardon my language.
User AvatarAre you really sure you're not talking about our Indra, Oleg? =P
    User Avatar:-))

    That was a good one.

Remembering this is what I call mental work. Also, in different cultures the same names can be used by men and women alike.

Even within the same culture... for example: Саша, Валя, Женя... :)~

That's what I meant – there are some cultures that have this trait. And yes, as I belong to one of them, it's more pardonable for me to make this mistake.

I am seeing a lot of concidental historical similiarties between the Indra the god and Indra the Deranged Philosopher it seems...

Don't worry. There is not much cultural reference (except Hindu Mythology) to identify the gender of this name. Like Orcish names, how do you know Org-gu-nach is a female dude or a male dude...er...since orcs regardless of gender look like dudes. Er...
User AvatarMy friend, if I didn't know for sure that the person hiding behind this avatar was just you (i.e. a deranged, male, home-bred philosopher who hates games because they have bugs and has little to do with fictional sexy half-elf female MMORPG characters), you'd have to add 1 Israeli to your stalking list!

Do you know that your avatar is looking at me back from the 2007 calendar on my computer table? :)

But are you really ever 100% sure, my dear Oleg? Please refer to original post:

  • MobyGames: Where Girls pretend to be Men - Chirinea

    *winks*
  • User AvatarNo girl will ever think of posting philosophical concepts decorated by sexual innuendo the way you do. You're a man, man. Just deal with it :-)
User AvatarI tend to think you folks are nuts and generally go "too far" in the general discussion about games. For that reason, my own random blurbs are a bit more neutral and not designed to raise an eyebrow from visiting ESRB members.

    • Mobygames: More that you ever wanted to know about electronic games
    • Mobygames: One big whale of a game collection
    • Mobygames: Overthinking videogames since 1997!
    • Mobygames: Where old games and new games collide... to be enjoyed
    • Mobygames: The home of every game your mom sold at a yard sale
    • Mobygames: Retro, Nouveau, Mainstream, Niche.... find your game info here
    • Mobygames: 33,000+ games, 100+ platforms, 80,000+ developers, 1 website coder
    • Mobygames: verified information on all the games in history
    • Mobygames: You are likely to be eaten by a grue
    • Mobygames: A user-contributed database of verified information dealing with the most important topic known to mankind: games

    and finally
    • Mobygames: Watch as a simple comment about a kid's game morphs into a debate about Dostoyevsky
User AvatarFor that reason, my own random blurbs are a bit more neutral and not designed to raise an eyebrow from visiting ESRB members

Dude, these slogans have been the victims of marketing crib death.

User AvatarWell I dunno... I like the grue one...why is it so familiar?

Edit - Zork! Wow, do I remember it because I played Zork and have forgotten or has it soaked so much in to the cultural subconcious....hmmm.
User AvatarI like the grue one...

It was among my favorites, but that didn't take much 8)

    why is it so familiar?

I'd put Zorkisms in a top 10 list of pervasive and since-ubiquitous game cliches. It's just become shorthand for a certain time in computing.
