Did a similar thread eons ago. Would like to make this a yearly tradition. Rules are simple enough. The purpose is simple enough. Nominate what you believe is the best game for a particular category. I'll provide some example categories here. Hell, nominate your own categories if you believe a particular game should be noticed.
Remember to nominate only games released in 2009!

Just one reply? So much for community participation. :p
Which also means that an official MG Game Awards one day seems more and more unlikely. :p

Indra, how can you in good conscience speak of 'awards' in this bleak and empty chapter of gaming?

What's the last game you really went bonkers over? [/Q --end Chris Wright wrote--] Considering I seem to have the unluckiest track record playing games in history. The question would probably be correct if re-written: "What's the last game you didn't go bonkers over?" Which would probably be directed to games before 3D acceleration was discovered.
Currently going bonkers over Dragon Age. Load game is now officially part of combat mechanics and dialog strategies. Gah. :p

I felt that Hearts of Iron 3 was the best strategy game of 2009, while I enjoyed Avernum 6 over all of the other RPGs I played this year (Though it was inferior to its 2002 predecessor). My selection is somewhat limited by my platform, nor have I played Dragon Age: Origins as it's a Cider-port, and thus my nominations might not be particularly representative.

Do you want to play the best German game in 2009? Play Anno 1404.
Do you want to play the best international game in 2009? Play Dawn of Discovery.
At least if you go after the "German video game price". This is so stupid. This is so stupid.

[Q --start Patrick Bregger wrote--]Do you want to play the best German game in 2009? Play Anno 1404. [/Q --end Patrick Bregger wrote--] Played that. Got really bored on single player. Stupid game keeps ignoring the city I made everytime I progressed in the campaign.
Currently questioning German taste for these "best games". A lot on "their" (whomever German review board made that it) list includes a lot of really crappy games.
