It was in Russian, and the title translates as 'Biomass'. Maybe 'Biomass something...', I don't remember quite well (I was about 5). I was visiting my uncle in central Russia and he had a cassette deck plugged into a TV, dunno what kind of 'computer' it was. He struggled with the deck for couple of hours and finally we managed to play two games - the first one was classic 'Snake', and the other one this Biomass. The game looked like this: You've got several people on the playfield, and the field is surrounded by biomass. The game is turn-based. In biomass's turn it randomly multiplies occupying more space and devouring any human it touches. The player, in his turn, can move the humans and set up walls that biomass can't penetrate. I remember that the vicious biomass always won. I really like the concept of this game.

I'm not sure I'd play it today without bleeding my eyes out, but I'd like to find it for historical reasons, and maybe there's a remake, who knows. Googling for 'Biomass' is useless. I only hope that resourcefulness of MG's *older* gamers would help me.

I recently played a browser game patterned after zombies which sounded as though it had very similar gameplay (save the dots on the grid, use your imagination to fill in the blanks); also lots of fire fighting sims work pretty similarly.

Greed Corp also uses similar elements. In the game all players (and/or AI opponents) must try to vanquish each other. Resources can be harvested from tiles. But if a tile seems lost or vulnerable (or has been harvested too often) the tile will crumble away reducing the size of the actually map.

Greed Corp is too complex unfortunately. I would really like to experience the 'arcade' madness of 80-s.
