I enjoyed reading this one: Interview: Paradox CEO Fred Wester Talks Up PC Gaming, Calls SecuROM DRM "a Waste of Money"
Great to see some big names in the business still have some common sense. As he says himself, it's the difference between a traditional head of a games company, versus a CEO that knows how to satisfy short-term shareholder interests but has not the slightest clue of the business they're in.
He confirms my assumptions that DRM is really only still used in order to assuage stakeholders completely ignorant of the industry and technical factors, to be able to say "we're doing something about piracy" in a way they understand, even if it's a lie. The way he puts it is more clear and direct than I've heard any big industry personality ever state it: that employing DRM is effectively a three-way waste of money:
But that doesn't show up on statistics very nicely, you'd have to look more than a month ahead, which is a notoriously problematic concept for shareholders.
