anyone know some?
Depends on the age. there is games like "The Sims" for older girls and also games like "Viva PiƱata" for a younger audience of any gender and the endless list of Barbie Games. There is even a lot of girls playing MMORPG's but I am sure thats not what you are after.
There's lots of really good graphic adventure games but what age are you talking about? and why do you keep asking for stuff? why don't you contribute something in return for all the help people have given you? Boo-urns on you! Twing-Twang

Post of the month Why would you want to just play "girl games?"
I suppose that's true. Some games are quite obviously marketed for girls, though - c'mon, look at the Barbie games, Hello Kitty, Strawberry Shortcake, ratio of pink to any other color...:)
Perhaps this query could be rephrased to "anybody know some games about subjects other than shooting guns and driving cars?"

Quoted for truth. Heh, girlie games are an unfortunate specialty for me:
Shoot, I just realized that there are enough wedding-themed games in the database to form a bona fide game group. Umm the "Tales Of" series seems pretty...girlish? Then there's Animal Crossing, Elite Beat Angel.UMmmm for the PC i'd suggest Jojo's Fashion Show. Great game and great graphics to boot! Note: ....I forgot how to make links on these things...... you finally back from HK?
umm yeah...i came back in may lol*waves @ Rob*
I find the idea that certain games are made exclusively for girls to be... well... kind of silly. I mean, they're gamers who happened to female, not girls who happened to be space aliens.
And as such, it goes back to that old cliche "depends on your taste". Certain genres, for sure, probably won't be as appealing. (i.e. I'm going go out on a limb and guess that you're not into games where it's greatest feature is the half naked girl on the cover) Having said that, certain features do tend to crop up as games that girls tend to enjoy more. (Though it is by no means a rule) Most of the time, these games have a greater emphasis on your relationship with other characters or other players. Games that tend to pit you in direct competition with another tend not to be too popular with a lot of gamer girls. (Though, once again, it's not exactly a rule so much as it's just a trend) Games that have involving stories tend to also grab gamer girls too, I notice. Having said that, I also know girls who rule at tekken, kick ass in counter-strike, and on top of that lead raids in WoW. (said girl, though, carries this love for competitive environment into her job, so...) So, really, it all depends again. There was at least one company -- Purple Moon Media -- who specifically made it their charter to make games that (they thought) would appeal to girls. They met with some criticism, as their Wikipedia page documents.
yeah, to me the entire company charter starts from a flawed premise. That is, female gamers choices are mutually exclusive to that of male gamers. And to be quite honest, treating game design the way you treat tampon designs is just moronic.
Female Gamers are at the core, still gamers. They still want quality games. It's one thing to say we design quality games that targets more of the female demographic. It's an entirely different thing to make the "female" part more important than the "quality". Barby games? Same exact problem. They're basically flash games with a different packaging. Their products? short lived. It's for the same reason that romantic comedies are dying. (Except for maybe say, Seth Rogan movies) The assumption behind the production supersedes the quest for quality. |
