I don't necessarily believe in every aspect of global warming (only because I'm too stupid to read up on it and am not a climate change scientist either), however constant erratic weather conditions and the current mega flood in Djakarta is continuously providing a powerful argument.

It's been abnormally warm here all winter until yesterday. It'd been raining all week, which was odd for January, and then the weather basically said "F YOU !" and dumped about a foot of snow on us yesterday. I hate weather with a bipolar attitude. :D

Unusually warm winters throughout the '00s, years without any settling snow (if it happened to snow a few times it was a little in the evening / at night and melted all away over the day). The last few were more proper again, and last year's actually unusually snowy and cold. This year meh again, some snow and cold, but overall way warmer than normal again.

Hot summers too of course. There was one unusually cool one too, but overall the past decade has quite a few years battling at the top of the hottest ever classification.

Also, of course, drought, with the expected effects on agriculture, hydropower plants and so on.

Floods... Was funny when some years ago the government's stance for the affected areas was that "something like this happens once in a hundred years, we couldn't expect it"... 2 years later, happened again. But I doubt it's unusual actually. May be somewhat worse than before, but the areas seem to always be more or less the expected ones, where something of the sort happens on most years, so why do they keep being surprised each time, and more importantly why don't those who live there get the hell out, I'll never get.

Tradition and emotional attachment. Geographical mobility isn't exactly driven into our survival instinct compared to birds migrating.

I'd think that after losing so much and ending up moving into a metal container for a while a few times, it'd get driven in there...

If we were that smart, we would have dismantled our armed forces long ago, diverted resources to start mega international projects, and started colonizing Alpha Centauri.

Eh, I find myself needing to side with the conservatives on that one. There are things to be said about the production of guns in terms of resources that may be better used otherwise, and of course I'm against using them to hunt, but if they exist and somebody wants a pile of them and a basement full of ammo for self-defense, collecting or whatever, they should be able to get them. That some will use them to harm is a given, but that goes the same for knives, cars, syringes, ropes and so on and it's no reason to punish the rest. Just try to catch the culprits before they kill themselves and get darn creative with the punishments afterwards, publicly, as an example to anyone else who gets such ideas.

Somewhat similar to the US foreign policy. Thus far, having a ton of nukes and the largest military force on earth hasn't made the US safer and foreign countries friendlier. Personally, I prefer machetes. No innocent bystanders gets screwed by a stray machete. :p

As for where I live, while the minimum temperatures were not extreme this winter, I found the average colder than usual. We had something of a drought in 2012, but that's not really unusual.

Well, let's see. This year we had winter weather all the way to November (spring is supposed to start on September down here). Christmas eve was not only the hottest day of the year so far, no one I know remembers when was the last time we had such a hot and humid day --it felt like the sweaty end of the world.

Also, crazy storms with ~100 km/h winds have started to become a regular thing, apparently. We had 4 of those in the last 60 years, 1 happened in 2005 and 2 happened just last year.

Granted, compared to what other countries have to endure, even now we have it quite easy.

It's been a bit warm a few weeks ago. Must be the global warming! (damn you global warming, work harder, I don't in fact like cold)

I would say global warming is at fault when it craps a foot of snow one day and literally starts melting the next. I like snow in winter, but just don't give to me all at once and then take it away! :P

So my idiotic president just made an announcement that heavy rains in Djakarta will persist until March. I hope my modem can swim. Anyways, I always wanted a beach house. :p

Today is definitely autumn though. Hail in my face as I exited central station. Too much wind to put up my umbrella.

I'm freezing every day here at 28 degrees Celsius. My normal temperature is at 32-33 degrees Celsius.

That's like peak summer temperatures here in Sweden! You'd die here during our winters. ;)

This has been the longest winter I remember. Only now it seems it's starting to recede.
