I know I haven't posted much lately, but I would like to formally announce that I am leaving Mobygames. No angst or ill-feelings, I just think it's time to move on. I've submitted a couple of reviews, but once those are approved I'm gone.

I hope you're not pulling some trick here. If not....goodbye. I found your reviews interesting and intelligent. :) Too bad you're leaving, but if you think it's time to move on then I can only wish you luck.
Damn, I have been always awkward at goodbyes.

I don't understand how the notion of "moving on" can be applied to a web forum or a site. You can still be an occasional forum user/contributor here, no matter what.
However, maybe, you've come to some kind of dissatisfaction with games in general. That's tough. I've been there. It's not good.
Anyway, it's a shame you won't be writing any new reviews, I've always enjoyed them. Your AMFV review made me remember why I love the game so much and even inspired to write a review of my own.
Goodbye!

Yes, we need to wait for the depression to kick in again and drive the would-be contributors back away from the healthy foundations of their everyday lives and into this obsessional microcosm!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I appreciate it, and you're all awesome people.
I'll probably still visit every couple of weeks, but I won't put myself under any obligation to contribute to the site. Mobygames is an awesome place, but if you take it too seriously it becomes a prison. I kept on feeling guilty because I wasn't contributing anything. Eventually I thought "why bother?"
And can I be blunt? I dislike these forums. They were fine for the first couple of months, but then the Oleg/Zovni/D Michael soap operas started and the place hasn't been the same since. There are a lot of good forumers here who continue to contribute worthwhile posts, but I'm out.
[Edit] the forum seems to have improved, so maybe I was a bit hasty

I've been more intellectually stimulated with conversations with Orcs.
Surprising, since they don't even exist. Excluding some former criminals I used to represent. Arg. :p

C'mon, that was fun. I really find weird when people leaves Mobygames because there are some trolling in the forums. This is like the most happier forum in the net. Anyway, I feel like you about making points in MG, and the need to post something once in a while, so, as for myself, I'll free your wings and let you fly away from Moby. When you understand that there is time for everything and find your equilibrium, you'll be back.
Unicorn Lynx (181788) on 1/3/2008 7:06 AM · Permalink · Report
So are you leaving the forums or are you leaving MG in general?
As you know, I also left the forums for a while. But all that time, I continued contributing to MG. Definitely not as much as before, but that was due to time constraints (which still exist, by the way).
So, are you: leaving the forums while continuing to contribute to MG, stopping all contributions but still visiting and using the site, leaving the site completely/deleting it from My Favorites/blocking the URL, stop visiting all game-related sites, leaving gaming altogether, abstaining from sex, becoming a monk, becoming a jazz musician?

I'm assuming this description of jazz is ironic, given the quintessential image of jazz musicians in my head is of a man crawling over twenty hookers in his dingy run-down one-room flat whilst tripping on acid and mescaline, and later writing a modal chamber-piece about it called "Nightingale" in Gb Aeolian.
P.S - Remember me? I'm not back :)
If you read this - Take care, Maw.

This terribly stereotypical, discriminating description hurts my feelings! For your information, mister: 1) five hookers are absolutely enough; 2) our flats are not dingy, some of them even have furniture and they get cleaned regularly, every year; and 3) It's not G flat Aeolian, it's F sharp Aeolian!
