I cannot find any confirmation that the game was officially released, as suggested by the Trivia section and Wikipedia. Almost everything about it is suspicious: the allegedly freeware version does not contain any license file or any other documentation whatsoever, and I found no official message about the freeware release anywhere.

The date stamps on the folders in the "freeware" version point to June 1999, but the Wayback Machine snapshot of the Core Design site from 2000 doesn't even mention the game on the company history page, much less offer any free download. Perhaps the rights to the game wen to some other company? Any idea?
